I check the dogs constantly....The Telstar was applied a week ago..I'm pulling at least 5 - 6 ticks off each dog every day. Now I'm also finding the ticks crawling up the walls in my bedroom (where the dogs sleep).....Could there be a nest of ticks in the walls?

Is It Safe to Split a Large Dog Dose of K9 Advantix Between 2 Smaller Dogs?

It's a well known fact that dogs have a pretty good chance of being inflicted with fleas at some point in their lifetime. Some will actually seem like they're a magnet for the small pests. That being said, there are some things you should know about flea control and what to look out for.

Fleas can typically be seen quickly moving over the dog's skin and are particularly partial to the base of the dogs tail and behind his ears. Flea droppings look like tiny bits of grit and are especially visible on the dog's belly.

Although there are a large number of different types of flea prevention products available from your VET I would suggest you to use a natural or "over the counter" flea treatment. A recent ASPCA warning has been issued to dog and cat owners regarding the type of flea and tick treatment currently being used. There have been an alarming number of dogs getting sick and dying! This leads to the entire industry being put under a microscopescrutinized, and rightfully so. Bear in mind that not only are the natural products safe but they usually significantly cheaper as well!

It's important that you should treat your home and car regularly in order to kill off the larvae or adult fleas. Fleas like heated areas so you need to pay extra attention to those parts of your home such as the carpet beneath the radiators, the living-room and the bedroom. Please remember to treat all pet bedding as well. If you only treat the animal and not its environment then you will be leaving all the eggs to hatch out and re-infect the animal all over again.

Canine fleas are quite indiscriminate and will infest a clean healthy dog just as much as the dirty neglected one. Flea bites can cause extreme irritation to the dog. Some dogs can also become allergic to the flea saliva which is injected into the skin every time the flea bites. As well as the irritation of the flea bite they are are also the intermediate host of the tapeworm.

Ages ago flea infestations were confined to the summer months but these days with more and more homes being centrally heated that is no longer the case. Fleas like warmth and will hatch their eggs in the gap between the skirting board and the carpet, between the floorboards, in the pile of fitted carpets and in the dogs bedding and basket.

After the baby flea eggs hatch the larvae stage can remain dormant for anything up to a year if the temp is not warm enough, before jumping onto the next passing host--perhaps your dog or worse you!--for a meal. Fleas do not live on the dog but simply use him as a source of food. They will live in your home and anywhere where the dog regularly goes, such as the car.

Only by paying close attention to flea control will you be able to ensure that your dog is kept clear of these prolific parasites. One of the best ways to prevent fleas from getting a hold in your home is to regularly use the vacuum cleaner.

K9 Advantix Dogs Over 55 Lb 6 Pack

I acknowledge that most people don't really spend their time pondering the nuances of flea control products like Frontline flea medicine.

During the cold months of the year, we might hole up at home with our pets knitting dog sweaters, watching the snowflakes fall through a frosty window pane, or reading a good book and staying warm by the fire.

As the warmer weather comes, we're eager to get outdoors and stretch our legs, shed some of that extra winter "padding" and let the light from the sun warm our faces.

One of the things that we might not think about during all of this idyll is the fleas, ticks, mosquitoes and other bugs that may be awakening with the warm weather to come after your pet!

That's why it can be important to treat your pet for fleas year round with a product like Frontline flea medicine. Frontline Plus, K-9 Advantix for dogs, Advantage for cats - these are all safe and effective flea and tick spray products that will keep the bugs from infesting your cat or dog in the summer. And with year round treatment, will avoid these pets snacking on you and your family when you're safe at home in winter, too.

Amazing as it seems, fleas and their offspring can have a life cycle that lasts for over 2 years. Once these pests enter your home, the eggs will drop from your dog or cat into your carpet, furniture, bedding and yard - waiting until conditions are favorable to hatch.

With a year-round regimen of Frontline flea medicine for dogs or cats, or another similar product you can kill the adult fleas that infect your pets and stop them from reproducing in your home and yard.

In addition to flea drops, flea shampoos or other flea medication for your pet, it's important to keep your home free from eggs, when possible.

Frequently launder any dog beds or bedding materials that your dog enjoys resting on. Vacuum your carpet and furniture regularly (with a flea collar in the vacuum bag to prevent fleas from hatching and crawling out of the vacuum) to pick up eggs that may have fallen off of your pet. (Flea eggs aren't sticky - they are designed to be disbursed throughout the host's habitat.

Once fleas invade, they can be hard to get rid of, so it's important to make routine flea and tick prevention a part of your pet's regular routine. Name brand flea drops, like Frontline flea medicine, Canine Advantix, or Advantage for cats are all products that your vet will recommend because they're effective and safe. You can also find them cheap online, sometimes for a discounted price.

However, as with any new flea medication or product, keep an eye on your pet when you apply the flea control, to make sure there are no adverse reactions. If there are, talk to your vet, and experiment with a different product that may be better for your dog or cat.

Emily J. Cressey has made it her business to find safe, effective, and cheap flea medications online.
